SITE GLOBAL CHAPTER EARNS ANNUAL AWARD IN SECOND YEAR

 


 

Cape Town, South Africa, December 6, 2010 The Southeast Chapter of Site (global network of meeting, event, marketing and sales professionals) was awarded the prestigious Chapter of the Year award at the 2010 Site International Conference. The award was created to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts and performance of local chapter leaders and members. Site recognizes the importance of its chapter network and supports the growth and continued success of local initiatives. The award is based on numerous considerations including education, special events and membership. Site Southeast has consistently delivered world class content that is relevant to our members and followers and has presented the information in a motivating and engaging way.

2010 Chapter President Corinne Conner said “Our commitment, passion and support proved to be such a success and I was honored to be in Cape Town to celebrate Site Southeast!” She later added “Thank you to our members, committee volunteers, sponsors, supporters and dedicated board, without whom we could not have been in the position for such an award after only two years.” 2011 President Elect Carol Owen said “It was thrilling to be in Cape Town and receive this affirmation of the extraordinary accomplishments of our chapter in front of our peers from around the world. We hope that this honor will attract even more talent, enthusiasm and commitment from our community so that 2011 continues the momentum that has created such an exceptional environment to grow as professionals in this industry.”

Formed just two years ago, Site Southeast USA, comprised of the seven southeastern states, rapidly has become became one of Site Global’s most successful chapters and was recently decorated with their “Special Distinction Award in Education and Membership” for their innovative programming. In 2010 the chapter took community outreach to a new level by raising over $40,000 for Wine to Water, an organization that brings clean drinking water around the globe to those in need.

In addition to naming our 2011 President and President Elect, the entire slate for the 2011 Board of Directors was named at the Vision 2020 Conference in Charleston, SC, November 14-16, 2010. Corinne Conner, Associate Regional Vice President, HelmsBriscoe ResourceOne and Pam Shepherd, President, Meeting Resources, Inc. were re-elected to the Board after serving in 2010. Corinne was the 2010 Site Southeast Chapter President, and Pam served as Member, Programs and Education. The chapter is excited for the return of these two outstanding leaders. There was one new member announced – Michael Greto, CMP, Event Manager, Strategic Events for Coca-Cola North America. While Mike may be a new face on the Board, he has certainly been a leader within our chapter from the beginning, sharing his event knowledge and expertise as the Committee Chair for Programs and Education.

Description: SITE Global Awards Wild Card Honor to SITE SE Chapter and International Site Member of the Year to Pam Spanjer

The Site Global Awards were held in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 14, 2011 at the Bellagio Hotel during the Site Global International Conference.  Site Southeast was awarded two distinctive honors during the Gala celebration.  The Wild Card Award which honors the Site SE Chapter for overall chapter excellence in the areas of marketing and branding, special events and philanthropy.  In addition, Pam Spanjer was awarded the International Member of the Year which is designed to recognize the member from Site’s global community who did the most during the year to support the chapter and goals of the organization as a whole.

The Wild Card Award was awarded for the Marketing and Philanthropy work done on the Share the Love event held at Sandestin Resort in Destin Florida in February of 2011.  The Share the Love Event focused on community service and environmental concerns.  The Wild Card award also honored the Site SE chapter’s work for Wine to Water during the chapter’s Summer Supper held in August 2011 at the Dunwoody Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia.  Wine to Water builds clean water wells in impoverished countries throughout the world.

Pam Spanjer

Pam Spanjer was recognized as International Member of the Year for her two year commitment to revising Site Global’s international bylaws.

Chapter awards also went to Site Canada for membership, Site Southern California for creation of an outstanding single event, Site Mexico for Education and Site South Africa as Chapter of the Year 2011.

Both Awards were handed out by Site Global President Mary MacGregor and Executive Director Allison Summers.

Formed 35 years ago, the organization has grown to more than 2,200 members in 87 countries with 34 local and regional chapters.  The global members include corporate buyers, hotel & resort suppliers, intermediary meeting professionals, corporate and association planners, event planners, cruise line representatives, sales & marketing executives, caterers, destination management companies, audio visual and production company representatives, ground transportation company representatives, and on-line registration company representatives that are all dedicated to this goal.

The Site Southeast USA mission is to provide enhanced understanding, education and best practices to further the effectiveness and motivational power of incentive travel.  As a group of experienced industry professionals, we look to provide new tools and opportunities to the region’s corporate, travel and hospitality professionals.

Description: Site Southeast USA Appoints Fred Edson to Board of Directors – Fred Edson to Serve as Secretary/Treasurer

The Southeast Chapter of Site (global network of meeting, event, marketing and sales professionals) has appointed Fred Edson as Secretary/Treasurer on its Board of Directors.   Edson previously served on the Communications Committee for three years, the last two of which he was the committee Chair.  He also served as webmaster from 2008 through 2010. Edson brings over 20 years of meeting industry experience and is Director of National Accounts with the all-inclusive Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa in Montego Bay Jamaica, one of Hilton Hotel’s top incentive meeting destinations.

2011 Chapter President Carol Owen said “Fred Edson’s commitment, passion and trustworthiness made him an overwhelming choice for this important position.”  She later added “Under his leadership the website, marketing and communications related areas have improved tremendously. He also has a great track record of recruiting and energizing volunteers.“

Based in Charleston South Carolina, Fred Edson is recognized within the organization for his dedication to the website, his leadership with the Communications Committee and his management of event registration at past events.  Edson said “Our chapter is very special to me since I have been a member since its inception and participated in its success.  It has been very rewarding to volunteer with such a dynamic group of people.” In the meetings industry, Edson is know for his hard work, honesty, and his ability to foster long-term partnerships with his customers.

Edson will be replaced on the Communications Committee by Shawn Bendig of The Kessler Collection, a luxury resort company specializing in experiential, destination driven properties.  Fred Edson said “Shawn is one of the most dedicated and creative people I have ever volunteered with. She is a logical choice to Chair the Communications Committee and we are lucky to have her.”
